CONTAINMENT 2.0 Containment is a realist strategy whereby one power scrambles to put limits on the global outreach and influence of the other power. This can be done through multiple ways and methods. Strategy of containment became extremely popular during the Cold War (1947-1991) between the US and the then USSR, whereby the US adopted multiple means to contain the spread of communism. The US built its nuclear and non nuclear arsenal; formed alliances with the European and non European nations; financed, equipped and trained proxies in many states fighting against the communist governments; provided assistance to capitalist governments fighting against communist insurgents; and put forth huge financial aid packages to win allies and strengthen the states in its anti communist bloc. This strategy was successful in rolling back communism which eventual met its fate in the late 90s with the collapse of the Soviet Union. This time around too the US is undertaking a comprehensi...

HOW CAMP DAVID AGREEMENT AND IRANIAN REVOLUTION CHANGED THE COURSE OF PALESTINE ISSUE FOREVER

Image
HOW CAMP DAVID AGREEMENT AND IRANIAN REVOLUTION CHANGED THE COURSE OF PALESTINE ISSUE FOREVER Palestine issue is one of the longstanding issues in the world that alone is enough to depict how selfish and merciless is the world we inhabit. Jews from across the world had started to move to Palestine in the late 19th century after the Ottoman Empire had been weakned by long term warfare. After World War 1, Palestine was given to the British as a mandate territory by the League of Nations. British control of Palestine further facilitated Jews relocation to Palestine as was also envisaged in the Balfour Declaration. Hence, number of jews had increased in Palestine exponentially in the 50 years between 1895 and 1945.Palestinians were expelled from their motherland in huge numbers to pave the way for the establishment of Zionist settlers in their land.  Hence, after the end of World War 2, State of Isreal was suucessfully established in Palestinian territories with the ul...

WHY THE US CANNOT DEFEAT CHINA

Image
WHY THE US CANNOT DEFEAT CHINA The history of international relations tells us that the US undertook a very comprehensive strategy of containment to limitize the influence and global outreach of the USSR and communism between 1947 and 1991. This strategy , adopted during the period commonly known as the Cold War, was carried out by the US by building strategic arsenal, forming security institutions, winning allies , providing economic packages to anti-communism states and entities and by engaging its communist opponent, USSR, in a proxy warfare wherever the opportunity arose. This strategy remained quite successful and achieved its objective with the collapse of the then USSR in 1991. Once again the US is undertaking the same containment strategy with some added features ,like trade and information warfare, to checkmate China’s growing power and influence. The question that arises in this regard is that whether American containment strategy a...

Incredible Similarity Between World War 1 and China-US Cold War

Image
Incredible Similarity Between World War 1 and China-US Cold War World War 1 took place in 1914 between Allied Powers led by the Great Birtain and France and later joined by the US and Central Powers led by German and Austro-Hungarian Empires. Great Britain had been the world's greatest imperial power whose empire was spread over more than 20% of the landmass of the Earth.  However, with the unification of Germany led by Otto Von Bismarck in the 1870s, Britain found a formidable competitor in Germany. It is interesting to note here that when we dig deeper in history, we find a lot of similarities between the modern day China and Germany of early 1900s. Germany had been an emerging power which started a journey of development and industrialization in the late 1870s and soon started challenging the economic supremacy of the UK in the world. Resultantly, It had outpaced Britain's industrial production by the year 1900.Similarly, China was also an emerging power in t...

Image
Universal Right to Vote: A Big Problem for Democratic Growth in the Third World Right to vote is among the most fundamental rights people enjoy in almost all of the democratic states of the world. This right to vote is given to every adult citizen of the state, irrespective of their education, ethnicity, gender or colour, thereby making it a universal right.  Although universal right to vote is often hailed as one of the most importnat pillars holding the building of democracy strong , it has negative implications for the growth of democracy when it comes to those states that have implemented a democratic form of governance but lack important features required for the correct use of this right. Such states are mostly developing and under-developed states. The most prominent factor which leads to the misuse of universal right to vote in these states , which has detrimental effects on the establishment of a true democracy there , is lack of education. Mostly developi...
